64 Bit Compiler
« on: March 06, 2019, 06:31:27 am »
Have Winbatch EXE's that were created under WB2016 and upgrade server is now running Windows 2016R2 and native 64 bit.  Some of my EXE's are failing with an error on the WWPST44I.DLL.

Questions:  Should I compile as 32 bit and they will run fine on Windows 2016 64Bit systems?  It seems the DLL's haven't been changed is awhile, so I'm assuming they are 32 bit versions

SMTP and ZIP DLL's are the only one referenced so there shouldn't be an issue leaving them as 32 bit under to new Windows 64 bit OS, right?

Thanks

Just purchased 2019 myself, since work wouldn't pay for it and will upgrade to that version if it handles 64 bit environment in a easier fashion.

I run the 32-bit version on a 2016 server with no problems.

Most WinBatch extenders have both 32-bit and 64-bit versions.  The Postie extender happens to be 32-bit only.  You can't use a 32-bit extender with 64-bit WinBatch.  That is just the way Windows works.

64-bit X64 Windows has been around for about 12-year and WinBatch has had a 64-bit version for about the last 8 years.  The vast majority of 64-bit x64 Windows-based systems run both 32-bit and 64-bit applications because of the way Intel designs their chips and the way Microsoft designs their OS.  I am a little surprised that there would even be a question about 32-bit WinBatch working on 64-bit Windows this late in the game.

Note that it is possible to configure 64-bit Windows to not support 32-bit applications but this is only done for certain server applications that are not likely to be encountered by someone wishing to run WinBatch on a server.

Forgot to also mention that 8 of the 22 extender DLLs listed on the Download page have been updated with new versions in the last year.

Looks like the 64bit version is only for machines running 64bit operating systems!
