Can the filewrite and dirmake functions work on memory sticks?

Yes, if it is formatted to NTFS or FAT32 and seen by the system as mounted, i.e., it appears as a drive in Windows File Explore. This usually happens simply by inserting in to a USB port assuming it is formatted.
